Our Homeschool Schedule
I’ve had quite a few moms reach out and ask me to share our homeschool schedule with them. I decided to share a fairly bare bones version of our schedule.
Before you go straight to the schedule, I want to share a couple of tips about our days:
- This schedule is set up for our family of 4 kids BUT is easily modified. We have 3 school-aged children and 1 almost-preschooler. If you have fewer kids, the schedule should go much more quickly for you! If you have more, just add in a little extra time for each subject.
- We try to keep our lessons to about 15 minutes each (except for math) but I provide a decent amount of padding within each subject so that if we are running behind, nobody is stressed and if we finish early, we can move right on to the next subject.
- For everyone’s sanity (especially mine), I make sure to have a decently high protein snack for the kids around 10:00. This goes a long way.
- I usually have jazz or classical music, or hymns playing in the background.
- If we have extra time, or I just need to take a phone call or get some work done (I work from home), I turn on Jonathan Park Audio Adventures and pull out the Legos or Playdoh so they can keep their hands busy while they listen.
- The kids each have their own book bins. If they read a certain number of books, they get a big prize (much better than the treasure box prize they get each Thursday).
- Location makes a difference! If it’s not working one day, just pack up some food, water, and sunscreen, and move it outside (backyard, park, etc).
- What about after the day is done? For the kids, the day has just begun! Often, they finish their work early so we have extra time to play. We like to go on hikes or find creeks or go exploring in general.
- We have the curriculum we have been using throughout the school year. However, there are a lot of great online resources including Teachers Pay Teachers, Scribed, Libravox, and Easy Peasy to name a few. Also, the Dollar Store has some really decent work books, coloring books, and school supplies in general!
- I also want to emphasize that if you only do one thing during this break, just make sure to read! Read aloud to your kids as often as possible, and read just above their level. In addition to some reading during the day, we read every night before bed. Our oldest is almost 9, and we read books that are a grade or two ahead of him. If you’d like some good book recommendations, let me know!

And MAMA: don’t stress. Just enjoy that extra time with your kiddo(s), grab some coffee and a good book, and get to reading with them!
If you have any questions about my schedule above, let me know. I’m happy to help!
